All 14 Hospitals to be operational by 2019

CLEARWATER, Fla.Oct. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Where do I park? Where's the cafeteria? How do I get back to my husband's room? These are just a few of the questions that BayCare Health System is hoping to answer for patients and visitors with BayCare Compass, a new free mobile wayfinding application.

Using a smart phone or tablet, BayCare Compass is a mobile wayfinding app that provides "turn by turn" directions to help patients and visitors locate their destination at a hospital.

"More and more, BayCare is utilizing apps and technology to deliver services and streamline access for patients and their families," said Tim Thompson, senior vice president, information services and chief information officer, BayCare. "BayCare Compass is another way that we can provide patients and visitors what they need and want – information in the palm of their hand that makes using the hospital easier."

Available for free download on the Apple App store or Google Play, BayCare Compass features:

  • Detailed maps of publicly available hospital floors
  • Directory of publicly available departments and clinics
  • Real-time location
  • Points of interest around the hospital
  • Driving and parking directions

As part of an enterprise-wide project across all BayCare hospitals, BayCare Compass first launched at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., in August. "Our patients and visitors are so excited about this tool," said Scott Smith, president of St. Anthony's Hospital.

BayCare is beginning the work to start installing BayCare Compass at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa and plans to move forward on a rolling schedule with the goal of having the app in use at all 14 BayCare hospitals by 2019.

St. Anthony's Hospital guest services staff are trained on BayCare Compass to assist patients or visitors and a desktop application gives users the opportunity to print out directions before leaving home. "You can even get driving directions and parking information," noted Thompson.

BayCare Compass is powered by Connexient, whose MediNav™ solution has been deployed at more than two dozen major health systems across the country.

BayCare Compass is just one of a series of technology-based solutions BayCare is using to enhance care and improve access. The solutions include:

  • HealthNav, a free mobile app that can help guide people with non-urgent conditions to convenient, quality medical services.
  • eCare, an electronic patient monitoring system that uses remote computer monitoring technology to enhance the care of critically ill patients in the hospital intensive care unit (ICU.)
  • BayCare Anywhere, a 24/7 non-emergency telemedicine service offering virtual doctor visits through a secure, interactive video and audio communications on a smart phone, tablet or computer.
  • Telemonitoring of patients in nursing homes or rehabilitation facilities.
  • Tablet-based, video-enhanced care for BayCare HomeCare patients in their homes.

BayCare is a leading not-for-profit health care system that connects individuals and families to a wide range of services at 14 hospitals and hundreds of other convenient locations throughout the Tampa Bay and west central Florida regions. NEW YORK and SYDNEY, July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Connexient and CriticalArc announced today that they have formed a partnership to integrate Connexient's MediNav™ Navigator Edition 2.0 with CriticalArc's SafeZone security response and emergency management solution. The combined solution will revolutionize the ability of organizations with complex campuses and facilities to respond to security and emergency incidents.

Connexient is the market leader in Digital Wayfinding and Enterprise Indoor Navigation Services for healthcare, with a rapidly growing roster of over 43 hospital clients. Powered by Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacons and sophisticated handset sensor fusion technology, MediNav™ Navigator v. 2.0 provides rich indoor maps, "blue dot" indoor navigation and location-based services for patients, visitors and staff.

CriticalArc is global technology innovator and the creator of the distributed command and control solution, SafeZone, which has been adopted by dozens of universities and hospitals across the world over the last several years. SafeZone fundamentally changes the way organizations manage safety and security operations across dispersed campuses and multi-site organizations, allowing proactive response that positively impacts the outcome of any incident.

The combined offering will integrate Connexient's indoor navigation and location services, along with its end-to-end outdoor + indoor maps, to enable truly transformative capabilities for large, complex facilities with real time situation awareness, navigation-enabled response and intelligent egress.

Connexient's Co-Founder and CEO, Mark Green, stated: "As the leader in Enterprise Navigation Services, Connexient is always discussing new use cases for indoor navigation with our clients. One of the most frequent and compelling topics that comes up is Safety and Security. Our clients tell us that they are literally 'flying blind' when they try to respond to issues inside large, complex buildings. We realized that if we could combine indoor mapping and navigation with a robust safety and security solution, the positive impact would be enormous. Our partnership with CriticalArc is focused on exactly that."

CriticalArc's Co-Founder and CEO, Glenn Farrant, added: "SafeZone empowers first responders and incident managers through real time shared location information and incident details sent simultaneously to the control-room and to mobile responders in the field. This allows optimal response across campuses, satellite locations and for workers in the community. Integrating Connexient's indoor maps and navigation services will enable us to extend the benefits and unique capabilities of the SafeZone solution to large, complex buildings and indoor environments, and add the new and unique element of indoor navigation. Compared to the situation today, that is a truly revolutionary step forward."

First health system in Houston offering beacon technology to help ease navigation for patients

HOUSTON (May 11, 2017) –Memorial Hermann Health System has announced the launch of Memorial Hermann Find My Way, a digital wayfinding app aimed at improving the patient experience while reducing late and missed appointments. The app currently features navigation for Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, with plans to expand to other locations throughout the System in the near future.

“At Memorial Hermann, we recognize that navigating health care can be frustrating. We’ve made it our mission to put the patient first, and that means removing barriers by directly addressing some of the most common complaints – particularly difficulties with wayfinding and parking,” said David Bradshaw, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Memorial Hermann.

Modern Healthcare recently reported on a wave of wayfinding strategies being tested nationwide, as health systems search for solutions to improve the patient experience. “We are excited to be the first health system in Houston to announce this innovative beacon technology, which is just the beginning of a more seamless healthcare experience for our patients and members,” said Bradshaw.

Find My Way is powered by Connexient, whose MediNavTM solution has been deployed at over two dozen major health systems across the country. The beacon, blue dot technology guides a patient or visitor from their starting location to their final destination by providing door-to-door directions for: hospital departments; physician offices; points of interest such as ATMs, dining facilities, pharmacies and more; and even the most convenient parking location based on the appointment location inside the facility. Advanced features, such as a parking planner, marks the exact parking location and navigates the user back to his or her car when finished with an appointment or visit.

“We are delighted to announce Memorial Hermann as the first health system in Texas, and 24th in the nation, to select MediNav as its wayfinding solution of choice,” said Mark Green, Connexient CEO and Co-Founder. “The System has been a long-time leader in innovation and technology. This digital strategy exemplifies its commitment to patient experience and healthcare transformation.”

Memorial Hermann Find My Way is currently available as a free download in the App Store for IOS and Google Play for Android.
